2016 BOW/BOF Shed Antler Hunt
3-14-16 I've been in contact with the director at Cedar Creek. The first date that works for both of us is April 16. Pencil that in and check back here for details. Also, it would be nice if we could recruit a few more participants. Bring your friends, spouses, kids/grandkids age 12 and up. $25/family max. This could be awesome shed hunting! Jane
3-13-16 Here's the latest: The AHATS location is officially off limits again this year. I am working on getting permission to do the shed hunt at Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve in East Bethel. I won't know for sure for at least a couple of days. I'm not available the next 2 weekends so the earliest that the shed hunt would happen is April 2 or 3. Keep checking here to see if I get the thumbs up or not. I will post the full details and driving directions once I get permission.
Cedar Creek is not open to the public so we will get first crack at their sheds! Could be great shed hunting!!! Cross your fingers that I can get permission. Jane
It's not looking good for a BOW shed hunt again this year. The AHATS location that I have utilized in the past is restricting access to non-military personnel. Last year when I tried to switch to a nearby public park only 4 participants showed up. For the time being I will just say that the class is on hold. Check back here on or after March 9. Jane
Where:
Map to location:
When:
Cost: $10/person, $25/family pay at the door. This event is open to individuals and families with children age 12 and older.
Class description: I will give a brief introduction to whitetail deer biology and the antler growth cycle. We will then hike through the park accompanied by knowledgable guides for approximately 1.5 hours searching for shed antlers. Come prepared to walk through remnant snow, seasonal wetlands, grasslands and woods. Waterproof hiking boots are highly recommended. Bring drinking water, sunscreen and bug spray - I've found at least one deer tick on me after each BOW shed hunt I've offered. Where there are deer, there are deer ticks! Cameras, binoculars, walking sticks, etc. are optional. Please carry a plastic bag (Target/Cub type grocery bag) to pick up any trash you may find. We are guests of Ramsey County Parks and want to keep getting allowed back to utilize their property.
I can't guarantee we will have access to bathrooms. Just sayin'
